The lordship of Nureci changed hands several times: from the De Poxados to the De Sena and finally to the Joffrè in 1453. In 1759, Marseille merchant Guglielmo Touffani acquired the territory and was granted the title of Count of Nureci and Asuni. It was only in 1839 that the town was redeemed from the Touffani family with the abolition of feudalism.
Today, Nureci boasts remnants of 14 nuraghes and a megalithic circle with an enigmatic allure. The local variant of Sardinian spoken here is Campidanese Occidentale, further enriching the local culture.
