Sanluri

Explore the lively city of Sanluri, the heart of central Campidano

Within the territory of Sanluri, ancient roots intertwine with mysterious nuraghi that dot the landscape.

Sanluri appears in documents dating back to the 14th century, revealing its strategic importance along the border between Cagliari and Arborea.

Despite being a small village, it became the capital of the curatoria of Nuraminis in Cagliari by 1300.

Wars and battles have marked the history of Sanluri, contested between Aragonese and Sardinians from Arborea for its strategic position.

On the hill called “Bruncu de sa battalla,” in 1409, the fierce Aragonese war came to an end, marking the island’s loss of independence.

The ancient part of town facing Campidano is enclosed within a square perimeter, a testament to the ancient walls erected by Aragonese in the 14th century to protect the city. Only a stretch of these walls survives today near the Castle, with a gate overlooking Arborea.
