Cantina Consorzio San Michele - Berchidda (SS)

The establishment of the San Michele Consortium dates back to 2013 when a group of four partners came together, each owning vineyards encompassing around 10 hectares in the picturesque San Michele region of Berchidda. This area is renowned for its production of Vermentino di Gallura DOCG, nestled at an altitude of 350m on the slopes of Limbara, boasting granitic soil perfectly suited for grape cultivation.

Production Methodology:

  • Emphasizing quality, the harvest is meticulously carried out by hand.
  • Following picking, the grapes undergo gentle pressing within 4/6 hours at controlled temperatures to preserve their innate flavors.
  • Winemaking entails fermentation in steel tanks at 15-16 degrees, maturation on lees for 7-8 months, and post-bottling (late May) aging for an additional 2 months in glass.

Embracing Tradition and Nature:

The primary objective of the Consortium lies in crafting a superior product that accentuates the distinct characteristics of both the grapes and the terroir. To achieve this, vineyard management focuses on restricting yields to below 70/75 quintals per hectare through expert pruning techniques and regulated irrigation methods.
