The Sa Pruna vineyard is situated in the charming town of Jerzu, nestled in the Ogliastra region at an impressive elevation of 427 meters above sea level within the stunning valley of Rio Pardu. Encircled by distinctive limestone plateaus such as Porcu’e Ludu and Troiscu, Jerzu boasts a rich viticultural heritage dating back to 1130 when vineyard transfers were first recorded in a historical notarial deed.
Within the Sa Pruna Agricultural Company, you will find sprawling vineyards in Perdarba and Alustia. Perdarba, characterized by its undulating terrain at 350-400 meters above sea level, is located just 3 km from Jerzu along Provincial Road 11 connecting Jerzu and Genn’e Cresia. The estate takes great pride in its Cannonau vines initially planted by Priamo Boi and Assunta, his dedicated wife, in 1968. This legacy was passed down to Giovanni Serra and Maria Boi during the early ’90s, leading to the establishment of the Sa Pruna Agricultural Company. They have meticulously preserved this ancient clone while expanding their vineyards across Perdarba and Alustia.
- Originally supplying grapes to Jerzu’s Cooperative Winery, Sa Pruna garnered attention from esteemed buyers on the island who were impressed by the exceptional quality of their grapes.
- Giovanni’s innovative winemaking techniques led him to experiment with various vinification methods, resulting in outstanding wines that inspired him to launch his own line of bottled creations.
Today, under the guidance of Giovanni, Maria, their children Michele and Claudia, along with the expertise of Enologist Dr. Antonio Mura, Sa Pruna proudly upholds its legacy. Fueled by a deep-seated love for their land, they have crafted Juannè, Curiosu, Delussu, and Bucchiau wines; all exclusively made from 100% Cannonau grapes sourced from the vineyards of Perdarba and Alustia – showcasing the varietal’s versatility and distinctiveness.
