Sartiglia Wine – A Taste of Tradition

Sartiglia is a red wine with Controlled Designation of Origin, crafted from Cannonau grapes and other local varieties. This ruby red wine evolves into garnet hues as it ages. It boasts an intense aroma with well-defined vinous notes, hints of ripe plum, and wild blackberries. On the palate, it offers warmth, fullness, and a distinctive structure that defines its unmistakable taste. Sartiglia pairs perfectly with grilled red meats, game dishes, and flavorful, spicy cheeses. Serve chilled at 16-18°C.

A New Lineage of Wines by Attilio Contini Winery

  • Attilio Contini Winery celebrates its 111th anniversary by introducing a new range of wines: Sartiglia, Pariglia, Componidori – featuring Cannonau, Vermentino, Vernaccia respectively.
  • These wines are named after the famed equestrian jousting event held annually in Oristano for over five centuries.
  • The names pay homage to different aspects of the event: the star race (Sartiglia), knightly skills (Pariglia), and the ritualistic head rider (Componidori).

Vernaccia “Componidori” – The Wine of Tradition

The choice to name the new Vernaccia wine “Componidori” was natural; it has always been associated with Sartiglia festivities. During this time each year, study conferences on vine cultivation have flourished alongside the renowned horse race.

Vernaccia takes center stage during Sartiglia days, replacing all traditional wines for toasts symbolizing good fortune between guild presidents and chosen riders before the masked Componidori takes charge in a moving vestiture ceremony.

Rooted in Tradition – Attilio Contini Winery

  • Sartiglia represents Oristano’s heritage just as Contini embodies territorial traditions through its wines.
  • Contini’s wines showcase Oristano worldwide while embracing innovation without forsaking tradition.
  • This synergy between tradition and progress characterizes Attilio Contini Winery’s ethos.

In our region, tradition intertwines with history as evidenced by recent discoveries of nuragic-era winemaking facilities between Oristano and Cabras. This rich heritage paves the way for global appreciation and recognition of our territory’s exceptional offerings.
