Discover the Essence of Vernaccia with Filu ‘e Ferru

Indulge in the transparent and clear appearance of Filu ‘e Ferru, a grape pomace aquavit with a distinctive aroma reminiscent of grappa, featuring sensational hints of vernaccia. Its uniqueness shines through in its savoriness, taste, delicacy, and smoothness, capturing the very essence of Vernaccia.

  • Origin Story:

The distillate Filu ‘e Ferru, known as “Aquavit of Sardinia” in Italian, has deep Sardinian roots. The name translates to “thread of iron,” dating back centuries ago where it was coined to describe the method used to hide the distillate from law enforcement during prohibition times when aquavit was clandestinely produced. Containers holding the distillate were buried underground and marked with one or more iron threads sticking out from the ground for later retrieval.

  • Innovative Creation:

Elio Carta’s strong family ties to this product, as his great-grandfather also produced it clandestinely, led him to experiment with a new recipe that would elevate its qualities. Years ago, he decided to produce a unique Filu ‘e Ferru that stands out from others on the market thanks to his exclusive recipe – setting a new standard for excellence in the industry.

  • Craftsmanship Process:

Unlike its counterparts, this Filu ‘e Ferru is born from the distillation of carefully selected vernaccia grape pomace. After fermenting in special containers for a month, they undergo an initial distillation using steam flow. Following a two-month resting period, they are distilled once more in discontinuous copper stills – meticulously separating the head and tail of the distillate to retain only the heart, the most precious part for bottling.
