Discover Giniu Gin: A transparent and clear gin with a distinctive aroma, reminiscent of the wild herbs of Sardinia. It represents the pinnacle of gin, embodying saltiness, taste, delicacy, and smoothness. Giniu captures the essence of Sardinia.

A Rich History:

  • After World War II in 1946, a thriving distillation activity emerged in Sardinia.
  • These clandestine distillations took place outdoors in courtyards, especially during winter nights.
  • Law enforcement had broad powers to seize equipment and arrest illegal distillers upon detecting the aroma.

Diverse Distillation:

  • Despite risks, locals distilled everything the land offered: from wine to citrus fruits.
  • Grape vernaccia, vernaccia wine, and juniper berries were popular choices for distillation.
  • The resulting spirits were used for both commercial purposes and personal consumption.

Giniu Legacy:

  • To avoid detection by authorities, unique names like “Giniu” were given to these spirits.
  • “Giniu,” derived from the Sardinian term for juniper plant “giniperu,” became synonymous with quality gin production.
  • In 2013, Elio revived this ancient tradition by crafting high-quality juniper berry distillate named Giniu Gin – recognized as one of Italy’s top 10 gins.
