Discover the Wild Mirto Liquor from Villacidro
Just like all Murgia products, the Mirto di Villacidro, a liquor made from wild myrtle, is crafted using only natural ingredients. It is produced by infusing hydroalcoholic extracts of berries and leaves of Myrtus Communis, harvested at perfect ripeness from wild plants in the Linas mountains, along with sugar and water.
The unique taste and aroma of this liquor set it apart from the rest. This is because approximately 200 grams of fresh berries are used per liter of liquor, twice the amount compared to regular preparations. It has a moderate alcohol content (32%) and a slightly sweet taste with a hint of bitter almond.
- Tips:
- Enjoy it at room temperature to fully appreciate its aroma.
- This latest addition to our range is a creation of the current administrator of the distillery. They carefully blend infusions spanning several years to balance out significant annual variations influenced by different seasonal conditions on uncultivated plants.
- The term “wild” stems from a playful debate over what’s more organic between a myrtle berry grown commercially and one gathered from wild plants.
- Pairs well with:
- Contrary to common advice from other myrtle brands, we recommend trying our product at room temperature. This allows you to savor its fresh and clean aroma which can be subdued by colder temperatures.
- In addition to being a digestive after meals, adding a few drops of this liquor to meat dishes, stews, or roasts—especially pork—can add zest after long cooking times.
- At Murgia, we mix it with balsamic vinegar for salads, particularly those featuring fennel and wild herbs. It also adds a touch of uniqueness when drizzled over cakes or ice cream.
