Discover Bultei: a town rich in history in the heart of Sardinia
Located in the province of Sassari, within the historic region of Goceano, Bultei is a captivating Italian municipality with a population of only 884 inhabitants. This place holds a millennia-old history dating back to the Neolithic and Bronze Ages.
The remnants of the past are still visible today through numerous nuraghi and domus de janas scattered across the territory of Bultei. Once, to the north of the town, stood the remains of ancient settlements, presumably wiped out by a terrible plague at the end of the Middle Ages.
The foundation of present-day Bultei dates back to before the year one thousand. It was previously part of the curatorship of Anela in the giudicato of Torres, later incorporated into the county of Goceano under the giudicato d’Arborea. After the defeat of the Marquis of Oristano in Macomer, it became a royal fiefdom.
This picturesque village is renowned for being the birthplace of Francesco Bande, one of the most illustrious musicians in Sardinian music history. The variant of Sardinian spoken in Bultei is Central Logudorese or Common Logudorese.
