Explore Curcuris: a hidden gem in Sardinia not to be missed!
Nestled in the province of Oristano in Sardinia, Curcuris is a treasure trove rich in history and tradition, with its 303 inhabitants who jealously guard the ancient origins of the Marmilla region.
This charming town boasts a human presence dating back to the Nuragic and Roman eras, but it was during the medieval period that its current center came to light. Belonging to the Giudicato of Arborea and the curatorship of Parte Usellus, it later became part of the Marquisate of Oristano after the fall of the giudicato in 1420.
Throughout the centuries, Curcuris has seen various dominant eras, from the Carroz counts of Quirra to the illustrious Centelles marquises of Quirra. The latter, in 1603, included the town in the marquisate of Quirra to continue writing its history.
The dynasties of Borgia, Català, and finally Osorio have left their mark on this extraordinary land until 1839 when Curcuris was finally redeemed from feudalism. In 1927, it became a hamlet of Ales before regaining its autonomy in 1979.
