Escolca

Discover the charming town of Escolca, also known as Iscroca in Sardinian, nestled at the foothills of the majestic Giara di Serri in the South Sardinia province. With a population of 586 inhabitants, this picturesque destination boasts a rich history dating back to ancient times.

Throughout pre-Nuragic and Nuragic eras, Escolca witnessed the passage of various civilizations, including the Romans, whose evocative sepulchral ruins still stand today. During the Middle Ages, it was part of the Judicature of Cagliari and Siurgus’ curatorship before falling under Pisan rule in 1258 and later Aragonese dominion in 1323.

As an integral part of the Carroz fiefdom, counts of Quirra, Escolca was later incorporated into the Marquisate of Mandas in 1603. It’s worth mentioning that the local variant of Sardinian spoken here is Western Campidanese.
