Gavoi

Discover Gavoi, a hidden gem in the agro-pastoral economy of Nuoro province, a charming village characterized by granite houses in the barbaricino style, creating a unique atmosphere throughout the town, nestled like an amphitheater on the slope of a wooded basin.

Nestled in the heart of Barbagia di Ollolai, strategically positioned between Nuoro and Gennargentu, Gavoi stands on the southeastern slope of a hill (Monte ‘e su Sennore), surrounded by the mountains of Pisanu Mele, lush forests, and crystal-clear streams.

The traces of human presence in this area date back to the Neolithic period, with significant evidence such as the menhir Sa Perda Longa and the Nuragic tombs of Uniai and Istelathe. During the Bronze Age (2nd millennium BC), the Nuragic civilization built several nuraghi and megalithic burials.

From Roman times, an ancient bridge remains, now submerged in the artificial lake of Gusana two kilometers from Gavoi, offering a breathtaking sight with its deep blue waters, perfect for canoeing and kayaking especially during autumn and winter.

The local typical products are exceptional, especially Sardinian flower cheese and cured meats, delighting visitors’ palates with authentic and genuine flavors.
