Genuri

Explore Genuri, also known as Giauni or Jauni in Sardinian, a picturesque Italian municipality nestled in the beauty of the South Sardinia province, in the historic sub-region of Marmilla.

Nestled at the foot of the enchanting Giara plateau, Genuri borders the provinces of Oristano (to the west) and Nuoro (to the north), being only 63 km away from Cagliari and 45 km from Oristano.

With a history rooted in the Nuragic era, Genuri boasts ancient remains of nuraghi and a past linked to the Judicate of Arborea during the Middle Ages, belonging to the curatorship of Marmilla. After the fall of the judicature in 1420, it became part of the Marquisate of Oristano and later of the Marquisate of Quirra under Aragonese rule.

Of significant historical interest in Genuri is the majestic nuraghe San Marco, subject to fascinating archaeological excavations, along with the charming rural church that bears the same name.

The Sardinian language spoken in Genuri is Campidanese Occidental, enriching local culture with its unique linguistic nuances.

The local economy is primarily based on agriculture in general, with particular emphasis on olive oil production and sheep and goat farming that characterize the territory.
