Ossi

Explore the charm of Ossi, a town nestled in the Logudoro region within the province of Sassari, known for its irregular development across various levels following the rugged terrain’s contours.

This picturesque town is perched on limestone hills, challenging for agriculture, yet residents have defied odds by cultivating olive groves and vineyards even on steep slopes.

One of Ossi’s highlights is the discovery of the nuraghe and nuragic village of Sa Mandra ‘e sa Guia, featuring a unique circular structure with a seat and adjacent basin believed to be used for baking.

Ancient artifacts trace back to pre-nuragic times, showcasing a historical continuum up to the present day. Explore ancient relics like the “Noeddale” necropolis with hypogeal tombs, Ena ‘e Muros’ polyandrous tomb, and Adde ‘Asile’s necropolis. The nuragic period boasts nine visible nuraghes alongside collapsed ones, highlighting Sa Mandra ‘e sa Guia village as a significant site for nuragic civilization history.

Ossi made its first appearance in Condaghe di San Pietro di Silki as Ogothi (entries 256 and 392). Described as a ‘domo,’ resembling a large estate/village managed directly by Torres’ judge/sovereign through his subordinates. However, its current nucleus dates back to high medieval times: once part of Coros’ ancient curatoria (“department”) belonging to Torres’ Judicate (an area near vanished village Ittiri).
