Discover Senorbì: A Charming Rural Hub
With a population of approximately 4000 inhabitants, Senorbì stands as a significant rural center that has deep historical roots.
The village was once the primary administrative center of the Curatoria of Trexenta during the Middle Ages.
Senorbì’s territory spans across a gently undulating plateau, intersected by two watercourses that converge near the bridge on State Road 547: the Rio Santu Teru and the Rio Cardaxius, leading to Sant’Andrea Frius.
The area surrounding Senorbì and Trexenta, in general, boasts an ancient history dating back to the pre-Nuragic era. The discovery of the renowned Mater Mediterranea, a Cycladic idol from the 3rd millennium BC depicting a mother goddess, signifies interactions with more advanced proto-historic civilizations such as those of the Cyclades Islands.
Throughout the Nuragic period, this land was consistently inhabited. While only three nuraghes are visible in Senorbì today – at Sisini, on Simieri hill, and on Mount Uda – it is believed that many more existed in the past.
In the heart of the village, characterized by a radial layout around Piazza S. Antonio, stands the parish church of S. Barbara. This church retains late-Gothic elements like its square-based bell tower; the addition of domes on high drums in the 17th century gives it an unusual appearance within local religious architecture.
