Discover Sinnai, a charming Italian destination located in the metropolitan city of Cagliari, in Sardinia.
Perched at the foot of the captivating Monte Serpeddì, approximately 133 meters above sea level, Sinnai is nestled in the beautiful Campidano plain of Cagliari.
Its name is intertwined with the ancient protosardinian sinníga plant that characterizes the region.
Sinnai’s history traces back to Neolithic times, showcasing a deeply rooted human presence in the area since ancient eras.
- In the Nuragic era and during the Bronze Age, numerous nuraghes (around 56) and various villages were built, bearing witness to the historical richness of the area.
Today, Sinnai thrives as a vibrant community, situated on gentle hills that are progressively expanding due to recent urbanization.
The picturesque Church of S. Vittoria, dating back to the 15th century and originally surrounded by countryside, now stands framed by residential buildings in Sinnai’s new western area.
The simple architecture of the church, with its rectangular plan and single nave, reflects the typical style of Sardinian countryside churches; inside, there is a small altarpiece with six panels attributed to one of the Cavaro artists, perhaps Lorenzo.
Navigating through narrow alleys in the upper part of the historic center leads to the Parish Church of S. Barbara, overlooking the town with its majestic bell tower.
Dating back to the 16th century, this church displays traces of Gothic-Aragonese architecture in some interior details and houses paintings attributed to the renowned Cagliari artist Giambattista Scaletta.
