Cantina Tenute Sella&Mosca - Alghero (SS)

Exploring the vineyards at I Piani is like stepping back in time to 1899 when the land was meticulously cleared of massive layers of Sandstone, Trachyte, and Limestone. This painstaking process involved removing thousands of boulders one by one using cutting-edge machinery for that era.

Today, remnants of this monumental effort can still be seen in the form of Sandstone boulders strategically placed across the Estate, creating a truly unique landscape. One striking feature is a grand elevated bridge constructed with just a few hundred of these large stones, offering a panoramic view of the vineyards coexisting harmoniously with natural areas.

The Founders

  • Over a century has passed since two adventurous Piedmontese individuals began cultivating the vast lands that now span over 550 hectares at Sella & Mosca vineyards. The picturesque setting and fertile soil captured the hearts of these two pioneers: engineer Sella, descendant of renowned statesman Quintino Sella, and lawyer Mosca.
  • The origins of Sella & Mosca date back to their transformative efforts in converting grazing pastures into thriving vineyards, initiating Sardegna’s most prestigious wine production. Visitors today can relive this pioneering spirit within the Estate’s enchanting grounds, immersed in a kaleidoscope of scents and flavors reflecting the region’s sunny and robust character.

The Sella & Mosca Brand

History meets culture in the emblematic logo of Sella & Mosca

  • The founders were not only wine connoisseurs but also avid enthusiasts of Egyptology and seasoned travelers.
  • The brand logo depicts a grape pressing scene reminiscent of ancient Egyptian iconography.
  • This stylized reproduction is believed to be inspired by a bas-relief found in Mereruka’s Mastaba, Pharaoh Teti’s Vizier at Saqqara, specifically on the lower part of North Wall Chamber A12.
  • The bas-relief portrays five men using long sticks to press grapes inside a sack, allowing juice to flow through the fabric into a jar below.
