Explore the vineyard of the Marchi siblings at Sa Defenza, a family-owned winery with a rich history spanning three generations. Situated in Donori, within the scenic Parteolla region of Southern Sardinia, our estate covers around 50 hectares of land, including vineyards, citrus orchards, olive groves, and Mediterranean vegetation. Nestled in picturesque hills with granitic soils and a classic Mediterranean climate, our vineyard embraces eco-friendly farming practices to prioritize biodiversity and ensure exceptional quality.
- Our sustainability efforts involve utilizing powdered sulfur exclusively, employing precise pruning techniques to eliminate plowing completely, and passionately experimenting with natural ground cover to enrich soil fertility. This approach fosters intricate connections between plants, microorganisms, and the soil in the rhizosphere – a crucial area for essential interactions.
- We also nourish the earth by returning organic matter through mulching weeds, respecting the natural cycle that sustains it. With vineyards matured over two decades boasting a density of approximately 4500 plants per hectare and yielding 60 – 70 q / Ha (around 1.5 kg per plant), we handpick grapes in crates for artisanal processing.
Our grapes undergo spontaneous fermentation under controlled temperatures before maturing in stainless steel tanks and undergoing further refinement in bottles. The resulting wines exhibit bold aromas, authentic flavors, and lively colors. Reflecting the essence of our location’s name – “the defense” – our wines embody our unique winemaking philosophy at “Sa Defenza”.
Since the harvest season of 2015, we have proudly introduced our first bottling line – “territorio”. Immerse yourself in our dedication to quality craftsmanship and traditional techniques evident in every bottle.
