Wine: Il Bio | Carignano del Sulcis DOC
Cellar: Cantina Biomar
Between the 19th and 20th century, the devastating plague of phylloxera (an American insect) destroyed a large part of European vineyards. An apocalypse that was remedied by grafting European vines, which produce grapes, onto American vines. Today, almost everywhere vines are grafted onto American rootstock, except for a few places like the island of Sant’Antioco, where sandy soils saved the vines with their original “own-rooted” roots. From these sands and own-rooted vines, our Carignano del Sulcis grapes are born, whose cultivation, facing the sea of Sardinia, has its roots deep in ancient times.
Bio is a red wine with Controlled Designation of Origin, Carignano del Sulcis, obtained from 100% organic Carignano grapes. This wine has an intense ruby red color, a rich and complex aroma that is fruity with elegant balsamic notes of Mediterranean scrub typical of the production area. On the palate, it is full-bodied, balanced, warm, and enveloping. Persistent in the mouth, soft with pleasant tannins. It pairs perfectly with meat-based first and second courses, cured meats, cheeses, and mushrooms. Serve at a temperature of 16-18°C.
